Man is always in constant search for knowledge which he makes use to create innovations that will make his life better. Among the varied inventions of man is a computer printer. The first computer printer can be traced back in the year 1953 which was developed by Remington-Rand as a match for Univac computer. Laser printers were evolved from the dry printing process or Xerox invented by Chester Carlson in 1938. 1971 witnessed the birth of the first laser printer which was then named as EARS. The next years are period of experiments and added inventions which paved the way to the first IBM printer. The IBM 3800 Printing System was considered as the first high-speed laser printer with a speed of more than 100 impressions-per-minute.

Nowadays, a computer printer is of vital importance in the different areas of human activities. It goes hand in hand with a computer as a component that generates the hard copy or a readable text from the stored data on the computer's system. Several printer technologies are available today but it can be categorized into two types - namely the impact and the non-impact technologies. A computer printer that uses the impact technology is equipped with a system that requires contact with the paper or whatever material that can be used to produce the readable text.

Dot Matrix and Character Printers are the two major classifications of Impact printer technology. A character printer is a computerized typewriter made up of a group of bars which serve as the platform for letters and numbers. Like a typewriter, the right characters are hit or struck to touch the ink ribbons which in turn pass on the characters to the paper. It can be used with speed but has limited uses. Computer printers with Dot matrix technology have a group of small pins needed to strike the ink coated ribbon to pass on the image to the paper.

A printer using the Non-Impact technology does not need contact with the paper to produce the desired image. An example of this is the commonly used Inkjet painters and Laser printers. An inkjet printer directly sprays drop of inks into the paper while a laser printer is equipped with a toner, heat and static electricity to produce the image. Inkjet printers are used in almost all offices, business, café and many other establishments. The printed image coming from an inkjet printer has tiny dots that usually have a diameter of 50-60 microns.

Print head assembly, paper feed assembly, power supply, control circuitry and interface ports are the parts making up a typical inkjet printer. The quality of the produced image in an inkjet printer is also dependent on the type of paper used. Brightness and absorption are the main factors that determine the quality of the printed image. The brightness is determined by the smoothness of the paper's surface. Smooth surface reflect more light which makes the image brighter. Absorption refers to the ability of the paper to take in the ink. Papers with good absorption capacity have images that will stay tight while poor absorption capacity can result in blotting.

Monochromatic and multi-colored images can be produced depending on the type of printer. Monochrome printer is only capable of generating images with only one color, commonly black, while a color printer can produce colored images. A printer can transform a group of characters, a vector image and a bitmapped image into a printed version. Other printers however cannot process all of these types. By examining your needs, you can choose the optimum printer for you.

Keep Your Work Mobile And Make Your Life Easier With A Laptop

My Acer laptop computer has changed my life. In fact, I can say quite honestly that it has revolutionalized the way that I work. It has made me much more productive and efficient overall. How, you might ask? As a writer, I need to remove myself from the distractions at home. And I would much prefer to work in the quiet, soothing atmosphere of a coffee shop. But doing so in the past meant recording everything with pen and paper and then retyping it upon my return home. What a waste of time. But now, my life has changed.

Owning my Acer meant not only that I could leave my home and work from the coffee shop, but I could leave town and still work. If I needed to travel for business, I had my work right there with me, on the plane, in the airport, in my motel. The Acer even affected my social life. Instead of finding myself bogged down, I can just type up my reports and head out the door to meet my friends for a night on the town. I don't even have to stop at home. I can just pack my laptop up, slip it in the car, and then enjoy the rest of the evening with friends. Work and play have become one.

To make my Acer more productive and efficient, I had to modify its operating system. Instead of relying on the old standby of Windows, I converted the operating system to red hat linux. Linux offered a faster and more stable system than windows, which has recently made computers more vulnerable to viruses than linux. In a nutshell, windows can kill your system. It slows it down and opens the door up for a plethora of viruses.

I also learned that to rely on my laptop, I needed to maintain it and protect it. Laptops are much more vulnerable to damage than a desktop, simply because we carry them everywhere we go. How often do you lug a computer tower around? Thus I recommend investing in a hard case. Sure, soft cases are cheaper and easier to carry, but in the end, you will want a hard case to protect this high dollar investment that you just saved a couple months worth of paychecks for.

Because of their vulnerability to damage, laptops should also be backed up frequently, daily if possible. No one wants to lose valuable information, so back up your information on a flash drive or CD. Consider using your desktop as a backup as well for the information on your laptop.

My Acer has saved me days of work. I find myself enjoying my job even more now that I am not chained to the same desk in the same room for hours. And I find myself enjoying life more when I know that I can just pick up and go in a moment's notice.

My Pc Is Slow What Should I Do

No matter how good your system is, there'll sure be a time when you face the slow pc performance syndrome. This is a universal problem every user sure to bounce into.

So when do you consider your PC slow? When you discover that the booting up time is more than the usual loading time, there is frequent hanging of PC, taking load of time to start an application or sluggish game play.

What is the cause for this? Well, it can be due to the hardware or software issue.

A lack of memory RAM is often the main cause for hardware issue. As technology advances, more and more software with heavy bandwidth are being developed. An old system with only 64MB of memory RAM will surely pants when running these heavy duty programs. Check out your motherboard maximum memory support and upgrade the RAM to the maximum. This will see an improvement. If your memory RAM is already at its maximum, then maybe it is time to change the motherboard.

Other than the RAM, the CPU is also another culprit for the slow performance. Similar to the RAM, an old CPU will not be sufficient to support new and complex applications. It might be easy to think that changing the CPU will help; however, changing CPU is not as easy as changing ram. Most of the time, the old motherboard will not be able to support the latest CPU in the market. If you are seriously considering changing the CPU, then it might be better to upgrade the whole system.

The data storage on the hard drive is based on sector allocation. Over the time, due to frequent installation and un-installation of programs, the data sectors will be scattered all around in the hard drive, making data retrieval difficult. This in turn adds up to the loading time. The hard drive fragmentation percentage refers to the percentage of the scattering of the data sector. The higher the percentage, the slower the performance. Performance can be improved by doing a defragmentation. This will arrange the sector cluster in retrieving order and also move seldom used or unused data to a remote sector.

Running of background processes and programs will also slow down the pc performance. Most of the time, these background activities occur without your knowledge and it is always the main cause for PC hanging. To eliminate this, press Control + Alternate + Delete to access the Window Task Manager. Click on the PROCESSES tab. This window will slow all the background processes. Select the application that you don't need and click 'End Process'. Do this with care as shutting down of important application will cause your PC to hang and all your unsaved data to be lost. Next, the right bottom panel of the window task bar shows the program running in the background. Right click on the icon and shut down the unused programs to free up the bandwidth.

With these few tips, it will be sufficient to improve your PC performance. If the above technique don't works, then you might have to consider reformatting your pc or upgrade to a new system.
